Why choose physiotherapist-led Pilates classes?
All of our Pilates classes are taught by a chartered physiotherapist, so they are like a physiotherapy treatment for you each time. What’s more, with a maximum of 12 attendees, you will always receive lots of individual attention and monitoring.
Pilates is appropriate for people of all ages and you can often start physio-led Pilates whilst you are continuing with your treatment or post-operative rehab.

Induction sessions
Participants are asked to attend a personal induction session before commencing any of our classes. This is to allow the physiotherapist to better understand any problems you may have with your movement or your health, and to identify any unique areas of need, which can be addressed during the classes.
You will also receive a detailed instruction on the core muscles, what they feel like when they are recruited, and the founding principles of Pilates (known as the 5 Key Elements), to ensure the correct technique.
Following your induction session, you will also be provided with a video demonstration for you to practise at home, prior to attending your first class. Personal induction sessions are 30 minutes and priced at £36.
Please note that, in order to ensure that there’s a suitable space available in a regular class that works for you before you attend your induction, we don’t allow bookings just for an induction session.
This helps us manage class numbers effectively and maintain our strict limit of no more than 12 people per class, ensuring high-quality, personalised instruction for every participant.
Once you’re inducted, you’ll be assigned a ‘home class’ where your space is reserved for you each week. This avoids classes becoming overloaded and helps us to maintain consistency.
For added flexibility, you can cancel your home class session in advance on Gymcatch and re-book into another available class on our timetable using our catch-up system.
This approach keeps our classes structured, safe, and focused, while giving you the flexibility you need.
After your first month of attending regularly, you’re welcome to move onto a PAYG option. Just bear in mind, the more often you attend, the quicker you’ll feel the benefits.
Modified Pilates
Modified or clinical Pilates consists of strength, mobilising and stabilising exercises, which can be beneficial for those experiencing pain or weakness, or to anyone who wants to start exercising again, but may be concerned about aggravating an existing injury or condition.
Benefits range from improved posture, flexibility, strength and co-ordination, to relief from lower back and neck pain as well as improving muscle tone, especially in the abdominal, buttock and hip region.
We offer private Pilates consultations as well as beginner and intermediate Pilates classes.

Private Pilates consultations
Our APPI Health Group trained Pilates physiotherapist offers the long-term benefits of individual specialist Pilates consultations and personalised exercise programmes.
This expertise allows our specialist to make small adjustments to your body ensuring that the correct body part “drives” the particular exercise. Each exercise is then modified specifically for you, enabling you to get so much more out of your Pilates practice.
Individual specialist scoliosis Pilates sessions are also available and include an assessment and personalised programme designed to correct and maintain spine curve and rotation, and keep in control of any related pain.

Your private modified Pilates consultation
During your consultation, you will be able to discuss any condition, pain or discomfort you are experiencing, and/or any improved sports performance you would like to achieve.
Our highly experienced Pilates physiotherapy practitioner will then complete a lifestyle review and ‘head-to-toe’ biomechanical posture assessment before discussing achievable short and long-term goals with you.
In order to ascertain which particular exercises will be most beneficial for you, posture observations are made throughout the consultation; this includes sitting, standing, walking, and other day to day actions such as squatting and standing on one leg. These observations also allow baseline measurement of balance, initial core strength, or any muscle imbalances that may be present.
Our Pilates physiotherapist will then fully explain their findings before devising your unique Pilates home exercise programme, tailored to your individual requirements and taking into account your occupation, sports, and hobbies.
Your consultation provides an opportunity to practise exercises under the guidance of our expert modified Pilates physiotherapy practitioner. Video demonstrations of your prescribed exercises are then emailed to you, ensuring that you are fully confident in completing exercises independently at home.
Private physiotherapy-led Pilates consultations are £65 and last 45 minutes. You will be asked to wear comfortable, stretchy clothing, such as jogging bottoms or leggings. Modified Pilates exercises are typically practised in socks. All equipment is provided.
Please note that prices are effective as of 1st April 2023.
Remote individual Pilates consultations
These begin with an interview (known as a subjective assessment), just as our physiotherapy assessments do. We take a history of your health, any conditions, pain, or injury you would like addressing, and any overall targets you would like to achieve.
We will then do an observational physical assessment looking at your natural posture and how you move. You will then be taught what your ‘core’ muscles are and how to feel them working (this is much easier than it sounds!).
A personal Pilates programme will be formulated to address your individual goals. You will be taught each exercise within the session, and then be sent an email of the exercise program to work on in between sessions. Each exercise is accompanied by written instructions and a video to remind you of the technique.

We do not recommend that you attend modified Pilates if you are experiencing severe pain or swelling, have severely restricted mobility, or have just had surgery. If you are currently medically unwell, you should check with a doctor before participating.
If you develop an exacerbation of your existing pain or develop a new pain during a course of classes, always let the physiotherapist know as soon as possible – it may be possible to modify the exercises further to help keep you active.
It is advised that you do not attend if you are newly pregnant (less than 8 weeks if you regularly attend) or if you have just given birth (less than 6 weeks post delivery, less than 8 weeks post caesarean). If you become pregnant, please let us know and we can discuss your suitability for our antenatal and pregnancy Pilates classes.
